A Quick Guide to Installing a Plasterboard Ceiling

Knocking a separate bathroom and WC into one room is a fairly straightforward DIY job. There’s not a great deal of building work involved and you certainly won’t need architects to draw up a plan for you. You will, however, have to include in your painting and decorating schedule to the installation of a plasterboard ceiling. Here’s how to go about it.

Don’t tape the edges of the ceiling to the wall, instead, trim the compressed edges of the plasterboard off and press against the wall. Just score a straight line with a Stanley knife 3ins from the edge, enough to break off without crumbling and snap the strip off. Hold the plasterboard up to the ceiling and drill into the ceiling joists at regular intervals. Screw into place, using non-rusting screws and seal the seam between boards with adhesive mesh tape. Mix some DIY store plaster and press it smoothly and firmly into place using a broad putty knife. Try to make the finish as smooth as you can. You’ll then need to apply a plaster skim, if your plastering skills are debatable, you might need to call in a professional, but if the ceiling isn’t that big, having a go yourself, it might not be as difficult as you imagine.

Whilst it may not, in itself, count as property development, it would certainly count as a valuable part of an overall property development plan and remember, great bathrooms really add value to your home or property.
