Blinds or Curtains?

When tackling windows one of the first questions a home decorator will themselves is: blinds or curtains?
This is such a simple question but it does have a rather complex answer that all comes down to the needs and preferences of the designer, and the specific needs of the room in question.

Bathroom and kitchens promises to be two of the more difficult rooms to make choices for.  This is partly because of their varied uses—one being a very private place whilst the other meant for entertaining family and friends and food preparation.  Both rooms, however, have in common the reality that moisture and heat will alter design.

For rooms where humidity and heat are a problem, window blinds are a great way to go.  There are many options that are resistant to these factors, such as treated wood blinds and roller blinds.

What is done in bedrooms and the other rooms in the house, however, are largely dependent on the preferences of the homeowner and the person using those rooms most often.  If privacy is a major concern, then blackout roller blinds and heavy curtains can be a good place to start.  If done correctly, curtains and blinds work well together in a window treatment and create a sophisticated and dramatic look.

Curtains have many advantages, too, including more variety in styles and colours and prints.  Used together with blinds, however, these two window treatments can create a design in a home that will be memorable and beautiful.
