Buying a Bathroom Vanity Unit

When buying a new vanity unit it is important to decide exactly what you are going to use it for. At times, function is as great a concern as appearance, particularly in a family home.

If you intend using it primarily for storing, say for towels and bed linen, then a cabinet style is clearly the better option, especially one fitted with a lot of deep shelves. But be sure to measure how far the connecting pipes from the sink to the mains water supply protrude. Many a vanity unit has gone to waste because of a failure to calculate if the shelving will fit around the pipes.

Another consideration is how many people will be using the unit. If the vanity unit is for a guest room or an en suite bathroom, then a single sink is more than adequate. However, a family bathroom would be better with a double basin installed.

After you have established the precise function of the unit, you can begin to have fun. Have a good look in specialist bathroom suppliers. You will be amazed at how stylish your unit can be. Decide on a colour, making sure that it will complement the intended colour scheme and design theme. Which material would you like to choose or would you like a combination? Have a good look at the sinks that you can fit into the unit. Depending on your budget, you could even commission one to be hand made to your own specification.

Have fun with your vanity unit, but don’t forget its function.
