Cheap Ways to Make Your Home Look Bigger
If you’re not in the market for major property development, knocking down walls, repositioning stairways or extending or loft conversions, there may still be some DIY projects you can undertake, which will make a real difference at a relatively low cost.
The first step is to clear the clutter, all through the house. Most of us amass ridiculous amounts of stuff we’re never going to use again. Move it all to the loft if you just can’t bear to part with it permanently, but then marvel at just how much more spacious every room looks.
The next task is to freshen everything up. Go for white or very light walls, the effect is amazing, a little painting and decorating in a light, neutral colour, even if it does involve the odd patch of plastering, can make a home look almost twice the size. You can always bring colour into a room with rugs, upholstery, curtains and art.
If you’re investing in new flooring, keep it light. Pale coloured carpets, laminates or tiles really bring out the full dimensions of a room. The addition of mood lighting can also make all the difference. Ambient wall lights and table lamps can create a warm and spacious effect in a light-coloured room, whereas harsh overhead lights can look brash and can even shrink the room. You could also use dimmer lights to enhance this effect.
With no major building, no architects, just space and light, why not expand your space today?
