Contemporary Designs in Modern Mirrors

The right mirror can transform a room dramatically.  Regardless of whether the contemporary mirror is hung as an ornamental accessory or because it’s functional or a perfect use of space, certain types of contemporary mirrors provide the most iconic elements of style.  Hung in the right place, the mirror will draw the eye of anyone entering the room to a focal point.  It also helps bring cohesion to the room and performs as a binding technique for contemporary style.

A stylised frame or bevelled edges generally epitomise a contemporary mirror.  Small black and clear mirror discs surrounding a central mirror define the contemporary sunburst mirror.  The fisheye mirror, long a favourite of butlers, allows a view of dinner guests while your back is turned.

Probably the most iconic modern design of a mirror is the black framed circle mirror.  Bold in understated elegance, it provides dramatic accent to any room, foyer or as an accessory.

Common designer tricks enhance the appearance of a contemporary mirror in the room.  Some will be hung in a foyer instead of artwork, opening the space up with interplay of shadow and light.  Another trick is to combine a contemporary console and then hang the mirror above the piece.  Using this technique in a foyer or small space can enhance the colour scheme and style of adjacent rooms.  Mixing contemporary mirrors with metal wall art, wall vases or shelving can add an inspired point of view to an otherwise nondescript space.
