Surface-Mounting Cable
Rather than concealing cable behind a wall, it can instead be mounted on the surface. The disadvantage of this is that it will not look very attractive and will be exposed to possible damage; thus, it needs to be protected and made more aesthetically pleasing. This can be done by running it in slim protective plastic trunking which is fixed to the surface of the wall.
This trunking consists of a U-shaped channel which is easy to stick or screw to the surface of the wall. A continuous snap-in cover strip is then used to hide the cables when they have been laid along the channel. These snap-in covers can be designed to resemble skirting boards and door architraves to make them blend into the decor of a room more easily. This is, however, not so important in utility rooms and garages, for example.
Both of these items are used in conjunction with wiring accessories designed for surface mounting. Trunking systems can include tidy collars to link the trunking to mounting boxes, as well as a range of tee and elbow fittings.
